Local Flavors Week takes place the third week of September, 2017. Participating restaurants will create a Local Flavors Special featuring seasonal ingredients sourced directly from central Illinois farmers, and will offer that special for one week in their restaurant. During Local Flavors Week, stop by any participating restaurant during their regular business hours and order the Local Flavors Special for a true taste of the flavors of Illionis.
Why It's Important
We can all agree that knowing where your food comes from and how it was raised is essential to insuring that it is fresh, nutritious, and good for the environment, but how do we make locally-grown food more available? That's where Local Flavors Week comes in. This new farm-to-table restaurant series, a spin-off of the popular Local Flavors series that has taken place in Bloomington-Normal, Springfield, Champaign-Urbana for the past 9 years, aims to bring the local food message to your favorite hometown restaurants. The Local Flavors Farm-to-Table Restaurant series opens new markets for small farmers; gives restaurants an opportunity to source locally and receive high quality products; and gives YOU a chance to experience a true farm-to-table meal while supporting local farmers, local restaurants, and the local economy.
Buying local is about more than how you spend your food dollars, it's about supporting what you value. When you buy local, you exercise your power to change our food system and create a world where land, animals, and people are treated with respect.

How it Works
Local Flavors is a program of the Buy Fresh Buy Local Central Illinois Chapter, which is operated by Illinois Stewardship Alliance. The purpose of this program is to connect Illinois growers and producers to local restaurants, as well as raise awareness for the importance of buying locally. When you dine out for Local Flavors, you are supporting local businesses, sustainable farming, locally grown products, and a more just food system.
