Our Story

Buy Fresh Buy Local 

 

Buy Fresh Buy Local is a national campaign coordinated by FoodRoutes Network. The campaign consists of regional chapters across the country which are organized by independent organizations and groups and which adhere to the national campaign guidelines. The campaign was created in order to encourage individual consumers, restaurants, grocery stores, and other to support local farmers and local foods.

-Buy Fresh Buy Local Central Illinois is organized and opertated by Illinois Stewardship Alliance, a a statewide non-profit organization providing programs and support to those working to strengthen regional opportunities for locally-grown foods.The Buy Fresh Buy Local Central Illinois Chapter was created in 2000 with the intent of strengthening the local food movement, increasing consumer access to nutritious local food, and supporting local farmers with a commitment to raising products in a sustainable, environmentally, and morally conscientious manner. 

 

- Buy Fresh Buy Local Central Illinois celebrates regional foods – fruits, vegetables, cheeses, meats, and more – through programs and opportunities that make it easier for you to find, choose, and appreciate great local foods while supporting the farmers and lands that produce them.

 

- Buy Fresh Buy Local Central Illinois  staff, volunteers, and farmers create food and buying guides, coordinate tasting and food events, support farmers’ markets, sponsor farm tours, and many other activities! We are also working to expand the Buy Fresh Buy Local brand – signs and labels – in stores, markets, and restaurants – so you know you’re supporting a business with a commitment to feature local foods and support local producers.

 

- Buy Fresh Buy Local Central Illinois members include growers, producers, retailers, restaurants, markets, and other Central Illinois institutions specializing in or utilizing locally-produced foods. 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Illinois Stewardship Alliance

 

Illinois Stewardship Alliance (also known as ISA) is a non-profit organization supporting local food and farming through policy advocacy, conservation education, and local food promotion. We are based in Springfield, but work throughout all of Illinois. The Alliance’s mission is to protect Illinois’ farmland, advocate for local food and farmers, link farmers and their food with markets and consumers and their needs, build strong local economies, and grow healthier businesses and families.
