10/26 – Pork at the Patch – Petersburg – 1-5pm

Join us at Indian Creek Pumpkin Patch to experience the once-a-year flavors of apple and pumpkin-finished pork from Sugar Grove Family Farms. With the purchase of admission, you will receive a pulled pork plate and side as well as entrance into The Granary onsite for musical entertainment by Nashville experienced artists Jenny Campbell and Amy Benton. Rolling Meadows Brewery beer and Custom Cup coffee will also be available for purchase. Corn maze and other activities available for children. Tickets are $11 for adults, and $5 for children. 11/1 – Putting Small Acres to Work Workshop – Dixon – 9am-3pm

Wondering what to do with your 5, 10 or 20 acres? Explore alternatives to make those acres productive or to enhance their productivity. University of Illinois Extension Carroll, Lee Whiteside Unit has scheduled a workshop entitled “Putting Small Acres to Work” to help you explore some alternatives for your small acres. We will begin the day at 9am with our keynote presentation on Whole Farm Planning. Participants can then choose between two breakout sessions. Learn More

11/3-5 – Specialty and Organic Grains Training Intensive – Champaign

Over the course of three days, participants will learn in detail about production and marketing of specialty and organic grains, through tours and presentations by the experts. The market for these grains is wide open, as demand for organics rises, local production of small grains remains limited, and consumers increasingly seek alternative products. 11/9 – Pastured Pigs: From Farm to Fork – Wyoming, IL – 2pm

A class demonstrating the art of carving a hog carcass into the various retail cuts. The class will be held at Broad Branch Farm and will feature Chef Dustin Allen. 11/13 – Holiday Punch 101 –Springfield – 5:30- 7:00pm

Join us at Maldaner’s for Holiday Punch 101. Slow Food Springfield welcomes Edward Burch of Intemperance to lead a discussion and demonstration of 19th century–style punch. Attendees will observe an in-depth, detailed presentation of the preparation of the syrups, juices, spirits, and assorted other ingredients as well as techniques that can help ensure a punch certain to delight your guests at gatherings during the holiday season.
