Butler Garden Club Book Fair

Free to attend. A portion of book fair sales will go to support the Butler Garden Club.

This event will focus on what we can do as a community to provide students with greater access to fresh, local food and encourage active lifestyles. Bites on the Boulevard: A Food Truck Meet Up

The MacArthur Boulevard Association is hosting a one night only, food truck park pop-up event on Tuesday, August 4, from 5:00 p.m. - 9 p.m. in the District 23 parking lot on MacArthur Boulevard. The event aims to support the growing food truck scene in Springfield; provide a fun event for neighbors and community members to come together for good food and drinks; and promote the MacArthur Boulevard as a great place to live, work and play.

Summertime means super fresh fruits and vegetables! Whether you are growing them in your garden or shopping at the local farmers market, there is an abundance of fresh, local food to get your family cooking. Join Illinois Stewardship Alliance and Copper Pot Cooking Studio for a seasonal cooking class for families (children ages 5-12 with an accompanying adult). Participants will learn how to prepare a shredded vegetable slaw and Israeli couscous with seasonal vegetables. Additionally, participants will create a take home garden craft. Space is limited. "Down on the Farm" Super Saturday at the Museum

Bring the whole family to Super Saturdays at the State Museum! Super Saturdays offer free, thematic activities recommended for children ages 3-8 every second Saturday of the month. Activities take 30 to 45 minutes to complete and feature crafts and educational games. Parents and families are encouraged to participate. In Illinois, farmland is all around us. Come learn about agriculture as we discover where the foods we eat come from, how they travel to our grocery stores, and different ways to enjoy them. Registration is not required for this activity. Welcome CWTC (Community Workshop and Training Center) a Central Illinois organization which provides programs and services to adults with disabilities; enriching their quality of life, promoting social change, and optimizing their potential for independence. As "producer of the week" they are able to sell the produce that they grow in their gardens to help fund the many wonderful programs that serve their participants. Producer of the week is a partnership between the Peoria Riverfront Market and The gitm Foundation to expand the opportunities to small and not for profit growers.

Photo Contest and Give-Away!

Urbana's Market at the Square and the Land Connection have teamed up to celebrate National Farmers Market Week with a Photo Contest featuring some amazing market prizes.

To enter, patrons need to attend both the Land Connection Market in Champaign on Tuesday, Aug. 4th from 4-7pm and the Urbana Market at the Square on Saturday, Aug. 8th from 7-noon. Each market will have a "Market Haul Photo Booth" set up where patrons can artfully arrange their purchases to show off all the wonderful produce and other delights. To enter, simply photograph your haul from each of the markets and upload it to social media with the hashtag #CUattheMarkets. A lucky winner will be drawn from those who have used the photo booth at both markets for a prize basket featuring gift certificates, recipes, and other wonderful market prizes.
