Homegrown Fest: Local Food and Urban Ag Workshops- March 19th

Homegrown Fest Saturday, March 19th, 2016 Lincoln Land Community College Workforce Development Center Homegrown Fest will feature mini-workshops from local experts on a variety of topics including gardening, urban agriculture, homesteading, diy, cooking, preserving the harvest and more. Want to present? APPLICATIONS DUE: December 11th, 2015 Homegrown Fest will bring together community members from all walks of life to explore and develop local food, agriculture, and gardening knowledge and skills. The aim of the Homegrown Fest is to increase the availability and affordability of local food, to grow and pass on knowledge related to food traditions and culture, and to reconnect the community to sustainable and holistic lifestyles for the 21st century. The event will be held on March 19th from 9am- 1pm at the Lincoln Land Community College Workforce Development Center. Registration (coming in February) will be $10 in advance and $15 at the door. Lunch will be available for sale. Led by Grow Springfield, Homegrown Fest seeks applications from individuals, organizations, and businesses to present 25 minute workshops, classes, or demonstrations at the event. These 25 minutes sessions should address different aspects of a local food system ranging from gardening and urban agriculture to local food preparation and preservation. Examples include, but are not limited to: How to Build a Cold Frame, Quick Pickling Cucumbers and Peppers, Container Gardening, and Seasonal Soups 101. Highest priority will be given to submissions that use hands-on techniques and that showcase affordable yet sustainable life skills.
